The minor exams, which were to begin from September 25, will be conducted as scheduled. The BoE has recommended that the second term should begin from November 3, instead of November 10, and the winter break can be extended up to January 7 to compensate for this loss, said Bhonde. “As the academic council is authorized to change the term, the decision will be taken by the members in their September 23 meeting. The MU will release the date of commencement for all exams by Saturday, and the timetable by next week,” said dean of commerce, Madhu Nair. The varsity conducts around 500 exams across courses and departments. Officials said they did not have many options as the poll dates were declared late and then was Diwali vacation. “There is hardly any opportunity to accommodate exams before Diwali as most colleges will be used as polling and counting centres from October 13 to 18. This was the best option available,” said Nair.
To avail these holidays, employees have to apply for, in writing in advance. However, general holidays are not applicable to industrial establishments, public sector units, public work departments and educational institutions in the State. Administrative departments concerned will issue separate orders to this effect.
